Two sites near the Natchez Trace Parkway played a role in Andrew Jackson's famous Battle of New Orleans following the Battle of 1812.

Jackson stayed at the McLish Indian reservation near Metal Ford (located at milepost 382) on his return from New Orleans, discharging his troops one mile north of the current Meriwether Lewis Monument and Gravesite.  Many of those troops settled in what would become Lewis County.
