to benefit the Lewis County Public Library’s Summer Reading Program. Scheduled for first weekend in May each year, 2016’s event is scheduled for Friday April 30 from 9am-5pm and Saturday, May 1, from 9am-4pm. Friday Night Block Party
Come out and join us for a musical celebration the second Friday of each month, May through September.
Through the partnership of Hohenwald/Lewis County Chamber of Commerce and City of Hohenwald, performances are scheduled 7:30-9:30 pm, at the City Parking Lot, corner of E. Linden and N. Maple Street, in downtown Hohenwald. Come out, bring your lawn chairs, and have a great time at these free events. Click on the calendar tab of our website for dates and scheduled performers.
South Central Area Fair
Held the first week of September each year, the South Central Area Fair is a regional fair that serves as the county fair of Lewis, Perry and Wayne Counties, Tennessee. The fair dates in 2020 were September 1, through September 5.
Our Fair is organized and governed by the members of the South Central Area Fair Board. Operational support is provided by the members of the Lewis County Jaycees, Hohenwald Fire Department, Hohenwald Police Department, Lewis County Sheriff’s Department and the Lewis County Sheriff’s Reserve Officer Program as well as various community groups throughout the area. Our fair board is an active member and participant in the Tennessee Association of Fairs. We are a non-profit organization; we turn a portion of our proceeds over to the community through the funding of improvements to our fair venue, Memorial Park, in Hohenwald, and other charitable projects throughout the area.
The Kissel Entertainment midway is made up of seven core components: Spectacular Rides, Thrill Rides, Family Rides, Kiddie Rides, Sillyville, Game & Food Concessions, and Midway Amenities. We take great pride in providing our guests with an amusement park-like atmosphere that patrons of all ages can enjoy - from toddlers to grandparents! We have something for everyone, all on one fairground!

Oktober Heritage Festival
The Hohenwald Oktober Heritage Festival, previously known as Oktoberfest, is an annual tradition over 40 years old!
On the second full weekend of each October, we set up a stage in town for local musicians to perform, have bounce house fun for kids, create booth space for vendors of arts & crafts, and invite food vendors to come sell their wares.
In addition to the festivities in town, there is a 20 mile yard sale on Highway 20! This part of the Heritage Festival grew organically, as our local townsfolk saw an opportunity to join forces with our festival.
A few years ago, the festival was renamed from Oktoberfest to the Oktober Heritage Festival, and we are gradually adding events to highlight the different cultures that created Hohenwald. The "Oktober" highlights the Swiss-German founders of the town, hence the German name Hohenwald meaning "high forest." The Modern Homestead Expo showcases the Appalachia influence and Hohenwald's history of building itself from the ground up. Unfortunately 2020 has upended so many events, so be sure to check with the Chamber of Commerce to find out the latest schedule for all festivals. Read more about Hohenwald's heritage here.
Come on out and shop for secondhand treasures, handmade arts and crafts, or perhaps get a bite to eat! But remember, 2020 is the year we have had to postpone many events.
